November 2009:
American Red Cross Letters to Santa
Children ages 1-12 can submit applications and letters to Santa
(with their parents' help). The letters are placed in a binder
for community members to choose a child to sponsor for the holidays.
Individuals, community groups and business can sponsor a child
or children. For those who cannot sponsor a child, the program
also accepts support through financial contributions and donations
of new unwrapped toys. If you would like to be a sponsor, visit
one of our adoption days at the Red Cross Chapter Office at 4836
Southpoint Parkway in Fredericksburg or give us a call at 540-735-0500
and we can work with you by phone or fax.
Salvation Army New Kids Coat Drive
Drop off a new kids coat at Applebee's in Central Park and receive
and 20% discount off your nest meal (alochol not included). All
coats go to benefit Salvation Army Toyland 2009 for needy children
in our local are. Come out and eat and help a neighbor in need.

Spotsylvania Dept of Social Services Holiday Hope 2009
Each holiday season the staff at the Spotsylvania Dept of Social
Services with the help of many volunteers coordinates the delivery
of food baskets and gifts to needy families in Spotsylvania. Sponsor
a needy family or families for Thanksgiving and/or christmas.
Donate new toys, books, gifts, food, new coats and/or gift cardd
or offer your business to collect Holiday hope gifts.
Rappahannock Big Brothers Big Sisters
is seeing a big increase in the number of children who want a
mentor. On our waiting list, we currently have 21 children in
Spotsylvania, 25 in Stafford, 15 in Fredericksburg, 9 in King
George and 3 in Caroline County. 55 of these children are boys,
so we are really in need of men, especially African American men.
We are also holding a Volunteer Information Session on Thursday,
November 19th at 7 pm at the agency at 325A Wallace Street, Fredericksburg,
near the Falmouth bridge and behind Wachovia Bank on Rte. 1. This
session is for adults in our community who would like to explore
becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister mentor. Couples are welcome,

Stage Door Productions and Kids on Stage Present The Adventures
of Stuart Little
The many adventures, both big and small, of Stuart Little are
brought to life in this story theatre presentation. The acting
ensemble plays many human and animal roles in a series of delightful
scenes that make up the maneuverings of a mild-mannered mouse
trying to survive in a "real people's world." Meet a few of the
lead characters: Narrators, Leslie King, Johannah Clayman, and
Keith Cranick; Stuart, Austin Sarmento; Mr. Little, Cole Metz;
Mrs. Little, Jennifer Squires; George, Bradley Meadows; and Snowbell,
Lindsey Earnhart. Performances will be held in the auditorium
of Massaponax High School on November 13 and 20 at 7:30 p.m.;
November 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 3 p.m. General Admission tickets
at the door are $12 for adults and $8 for children; advance tickets

Virginia's
Holiday Lightfest
Virginia’s Holiday Lightfest will glow nightly November 27– January
1st from 6pm - 10pm. “Virginia’s Holiday Lightfest” a dazzling
illuminated drive through holiday experience will be held at Patriot
Park (5710 Smith Station Rd.). Featuring larger than life displays
and close to a mile of true holiday magic. Brand new in 2009,
Virginia’s Holiday Lightfest at Patriot Park will benefit the
Greater Chapter of the American Red Cross. Lighted displays sponsored
by local businesses such as: CVS Distribution Center, Quarles,
Minnieland, Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, Window World,
Liberty Mutual, Coldwell Banker Elite, REC and NSCW Federal Credit
Union Admission for the event is $8 per car on weekdays and $12

Riverbend High School Drama The Cactus Flower
The Riverbend High School Drama Department presents Abe Burrows’
The Cactus Flower Wednesday November 18th through Saturday November
21st at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 at the door. All proceeds benefit
the Corporal Brett Lundstrum scholarship fund.
Friday, November 20th
Salvation Army Midnight Madness Food Drive Benefit
There will be a midnight madness food drive benefit to help your
neighbors in need on Friday November 20 at the Salvation Army
Family Store, 2010 Lafayette Blvd. Hours are from 9 am to midnight.
Pick up free tickets to register for door prizes throughout the
day. Come by; register to win and Please bring non perishable

Liberty Community Church Open Mic Night
Liberty Community Church will host an open mic night to showcase
local talent. Bands, musicians, artists, poets, and other artists
are encouraged to participate and attend to connect with other
local artists. Artists are encouraged to pre-register to ensure
space for their talents. All styles are welcome as long as there
is a positive message. Open mic night will be Friday November

Show

event will be held at the University of Mary Washington’s Jepson
Alumni Center (1119 Hanover Street) in downtown Fredericksburg,

include jewelry, soaps, lotions, original watercolor and oil paintings,
handbags, boutique gifts, apparel, children’s items and more!
Admission is $3 at the door, and children under the age of 12

20 from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. Enjoy this preview party with cocktails,
appetizers, silent auction, and door prizes! Advance ticket purchase
is required for the Jingle Bell Cocktail at a fee of $45 per person.
Funds raised by MERRY MARKET will benefit children’s charities
right here in the Fredericksburg area! To date the Fredericksburg
Area Service League has donated more than $500,000 to support
local children’s causes. FASL is proud to support Hazelwild Heroes,
Holliann Grace Center for Children with Disabilities, Camp Rainbow/Hospice,
Hope House, Kids for a Cure Club Diabetes Camp, and Olde Forge
Community Center, as well as college scholarships for local graduating

Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad Arvel P. Shannon Training
center Grand Opening
There will be an Open house at Spotsylvania Rescue Squad's Arvel
P. Shannon Training Center at 8711 courthouse Roda on sunday November
22 from 1-5 pm. Everyone is welcome to tour the new facilities
and get a close-up look st the area's first dedicated training
center operated by a rescue orgainization. On display will be
rescue and training equipment, including a real ambulane box in
the building, which will help simulate real situation. The training
center is named for and dedicated to Arvel P. Shannon who has
long been a constant supporter of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue
Squad. The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 1 pm. Facility
tours and free refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Aquia's Table, a hot meals program in Stafford County, is

Liberty Community Church Thanksgiving Dinner
Liberty Community Church will host a Thanksgiving Dinner for the
community on Thanksgiving day at 6pm. Everyone is invited, but
those who are alone or unable to cook dinner at home are especially
welcome. Law enforcement, emergency workers on duty, and visitors
to the area are welcome also. This dinner is provided through
the donations of local businesses and members of Liberty Community
Church in order to provide a family atmosphere for the holiday
for those unable to be with family or provide the meal for their

Stage Door Productions Presents A Christmas Carol
Stage Door Productions presents A Christmas Carol by Michael Paller.
Based on the book by Charles Dickens; the play is fictional about
Dickens writing of the Christmas Carol. He enlists family and
friends to act out the story in his attic room where he does his
writing. The family and friends play the various characters in
"A Christmas Carol" using costume pieces from a clotheshorse and
a trunk. Performances will be held at Germanna Community College,
Fredericksburg Campus on December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 8
